New Work: Vision Investment Properties

For the past few months, I've been working with the marketing team at Vision Investment Properties to revamp their site and marketing materials. It was an interesting experience working with people in a very different type of industry. The highlight of this was when the marketing specialist had to explain to me how "investment" works. Although I am asian (Chinese/Taiwanese whatever), I do not fall under the stereotype. I know my mother once wish I were a math magician but... math 12 in high school was the end of my "numbers" career. I haven't touched math or accounting since grade 11 (I took math 12 in grade 11).

Enough of that - another new project to share with you peeps - templates/PSDs are out of my hands and it's up to the team to jazz it up with content!

IKEA SPACE FOR RENT

IKEA has been a bit of a star on my social media radar for the past two weeks. The reopened the first IKEA in Richmond BC with a bigger space and lotsa contests and free coupons. Apparently a few of my friends won a few 100 dollars gift card! But I wonder if they will ever take this Australian (SA and WA store) IKEA concept to Vancouver: IKEA pays rent to keep their catalogue in your home. The concept is brilliant and the result is a huge success! Basically, instead of throwing away your catalogue after reading it.. register with IKEA and keep it at home and IKEA will send you monthly cheques (IKEA coupons) for you to shop at IKEA. Ta-da! How simple and smart is that!

Maybe this doesn't exactly solve the problem of keeping the catalogues at home and making good use of it but it definitely motivates consumers to shop and drive sales. Although I don't usually get the big yearly catalogues that IKEA talks about here, I do get their mini/seasonal catalogues that is about 5 pages saddle stitched. I wonder if IKEA will ever do something to those too - personalize it perhaps? What do you think?

New Work: Page Bridge

It's all very exciting to me when I help a new client to brand their business. Been super busy this month - and here I present you one of the many projects that I've been working on.

Page Bridge is a company own by a contemporary artist, curator, editor and translator, Yaji. Yaji wears many hats like the most of us - she originally found her interests in art and photography. With her multidisciplinary and trilingual background, she soon expanded her capabilities in working for international museums and with renown artists and writers as a curator, editor and translator . The concept and design is inspired by her work, personality and cultural design practices. She works and collaborates with talents in Vancouver, New York, London, Tokyo/Japan, Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei. The goal was to create a design where it will be unique, suitable and appropriate for the many cultures and cities she travels in.

Thanks to Yaji and David at  Black Stone Press who printed the work at his letterpress studio.

More exciting working coming real soon! Promise!

Big Air, Big Moves, Even Bigger Ideas

We are all familiar with Red Bull and its cute stick-man-ish commercials but there are more to Red Bull's World of Commercials. These new commercial campaign don't necessary give the professionals any wings but definitely inspiring and breathtaking! And in my opinion, very meaningful.

I am not a Red Bull drinker because energy drinks make me go nuts! But I am inspired by the moto, campaign and brand behind Red Bulls; youth, hope, aspiration... Marketers shouldn't be sucked into brands and its marketing but sometimes it is those brands and commercials, like Red Bull, that kick you in the bum and tells you "If you believe in it then anything is possible".
